The concept develops along three central items: sustainability, respect for past, present and future and self-support.
We are proud of the cultural heritage of our place and intend to maintain, restore and add as much as possible with respect to the traditions of the region. In the farm building we not only pay attention to aspects of 100 ore more years ago, but also to recent history which seems often neglected nowadays. The expansion period after World War II remains visible in the new functions, the huge yard of concrete will be recreated to new recreational functions without loosing our “Mansholt expansion history”. The gardens will be kept in line with the “Mien Ruys” landscape architecture. This is because a part of the existing garden is designed by her and because she was a master in combining old traditional lines with very new items in a respectful and simple way. Needless to say that the landscape itself (the famous square polder landscape) is basic in the design and positioning of buildings, gardens as well as the overall design of the land , the buildings and the gardens: the orchard on the ´right spot´, still enabling a wide view, using the principles of the female and the male parts on yards as has been pointed out by Greet Bierema. We are aware that we actively participate in this world: from local to global, all depending on qualities and interest. Whether in the local theatre group, the village choir or in the ´thinktank´ group on agricultural policy, we try to remain active and open-minded. Accordingly, we want to take our responsibility for a prosperous communal life, around our own place in one of the rich properties of a good functioning rural area. The huge attic, which was used for hay and straw storage, will be transformed into a meeting place for all kinds of people dealing with rural affairs and agriculture. We plan to set up activities where the local will meet the global, where rethinking and renewal can be discussed in a safe place, where we can add to the worldwide networks of people dealing with the future of rural areas in a sustainable way. |
